Why We Need Playgrounds for Children?

The most playful years in a child’s life are between ages 5-12. This is a time when they learn the most during the play. For kids of this age, playgrounds are the most cherished places. It is on the playgrounds that children learn to collaborate, empathize, and practice sportsman spirit. Playgrounds play a prominent role to learn all these crucial lessons in life.

We are witnessing an evolution of playgrounds with new school playground equipment. These play structures provide a better quality of play and make kids more active. Kids of age 5-12 years are at the prime phase of cognitive development. Thus the play structures at the elementary schools must harness creativity with an ability to learn new things around them. The playground equipment at schools polish motor skills and problem-solving skills of children. The social aspect of the modern playgrounds cannot be discounted as well.

Unstructured play in the absence of playgrounds may lead to bullying. Contrarily, modern school playground equipment significantly reduces these threats by engaging kids. This not only reduces the chances of negative occurrence but also develops overall confidence in kids. Therefore, playgrounds must be nurtured if we want our children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.

What Constitutes a Quality Playground Equipment for Kids of Age 5-12 Years?

The authorities have developed some laws and standards that must be met to make sure that our kids get the maximum play experience. Before, parents used to be cautious but the quality of new playground equipment has overcome this fear.

There is no dicey stuff at playgrounds. Mud and sand pits that made them risky are now replaced with safer play structures. These have round corners with no sharp edges thus reducing the risk of injury during the play. It is not the material quality alone that makes an equipment good for play. Ideally, these play structures should instill strength and coordination among the kids. Therefore, playground equipment must include a variety of structures such as climbers, horizontal ladders, step ladders, rung ladders, stairways, track rides, and activity panels.

Kids are inherently wired to play. A well-designed school playground offers a welcoming space where students can not only play but also exercise and have fun. Besides the social and intellectual development associated with the playtime, physical development must be at the core of school playground equipment. The slides and climbers help the kids polish their motor skills. Large play structures are another great opportunity to encourage active group play, allowing students to incorporate elements of pretend play or challenge other kids in navigating physical obstacles.

Playground Equipment Safety

The life of playground structures is limited. Exposure to elements and usage further deteriorates it over the years. All the playground equipment installed at schools must be durable. It must stand firm against heavy foot traffic while minimizing the risk of injury. Schools must comply with the government’s parameters and ensure that a playground safety management system must be enacted to reduce the risk of injuries to the students. The play structures must comply with the CPSC safety guidelines and ADA compliance requirements.

Additionally, the school playground must be accessible to differently abled children with appropriately navigable surfaces. Any old equipment must be periodically examined to check that it meets the safety and compliance standards.
Finally, an ideal school playground must have a mix of structures for all age groups to promote and encourage an inclusive play environment. A commercial-grade school playground equipment not only saves time but also money. Create a mix of structures including equipment, climbers, and sports equipment that kids love to play with.
