Playland commercial playground equipment and school playground equipment:

The original playland was truly a family affair with the father and son team both fabricating and selling the company’s products – commercial playground equipment.

In 1990 Anthony Strickland took over the company as President and CEO and set out on a course to develop the beginnings of what is the current product line of modular commercial playground equipment, originally and fondly named playland Systems.

playland became a division of Superior International Industries in 1997. SII, as their customers know them, was founded in 1991 by Rob Pepper and Ray Derbecker as a components supplier to the commercial playground equipment industry. While building on their customer base, they partnered with one of the original founders of playland, Anthony Strickland, in 1997 to form the new playland which would also specialize in school playground equipment. This new partnership was unique because, as a group of investors and partners, they have spent their lives in the commercial playground equipment industry. They proudly say that Playland is one of the only playground manufacturers in the market today that has leaders that are lifelong “playground People.”

Then and now, playland’s mission is to build high quality commercial playground equipment at an affordable price while maintaining the highest safety standards in the industry. With both domestic and international sales teams, playland has school playground equipment all over the world.

With over 300, 000 square feet of combined manufacturing school playground equipment space and utilizing in-house technologies of rotational molding, metal fabrication and custom fabric forming, playland produces 95% of the school playground equipment it sells. In a multi-phase manufacturing process for, playland uses Dura-Guard™ Galvanized Weld Protection, a pre-sanding and hand cleaning power prep process, and finally a baked- on powder-coat finishing process for the commercial playground equipment.

Quality engineering returns quality results. The playland design team utilizes SOLIDWORKS™ engineering software for new commercial playground equipment engineering and implementation.

Our patent pending Glide Elbow enables you to quickly remove and re-install the fabric on these playground shade structures in the event that severe weather is in the forecast.

Softile playground surfaces:

Softile has been developed, engineered and thoroughly tested, to offer superior impact resistance for virtually any playground safety surface. Our patented channelock edge is an exclusive Softile design feature and is unique to playground surfaces. This major advantage gives our customers a virtually monolithic playground safety surface that installs simply, precisely, and securely with a minimum of labor and adhesive. This eliminates potential problems due to expansion and contraction of individual tiles.

Softile allows for all the benefits of a poured-in-place surface with the ease of installation and maintenance of playground surfaces. We can create playful patterns for the playground safety surface using multi-colored Softile is a “Sof-Walk” in the park.

Other playground surfaces features include precisely engineered stanchions, which raise the playground safety surface off the ground, providing excellent water drainage as well as preventing the upward migration of sub base aggregates into the safety surfacing tile. Stanchions allow for a lighter, more affordable playground surfaces, that not only ensures, but increases the impact attenuation of the entire playground safety surface.
